At Pebbles, we offer therapeutic residential child care and education to children and young people aged 8-18 who have suffered early years adversities and need a safe space to call ‘home’. With nearly 20 years’ experience in the sector, we have built a reputation for excellence and expertise and are on a mission to lead the way in providing bespoke therapeutic care and education.

Jessica Davidson

Referrals Coordinator

I joined Pebbles as a Residential Child Care Worker in 2016, after graduating in psychology, to help young people change the outcome of their future by supporting them to work through the traumatic events they have experienced. I became a Trauma Pathway trainer to assess behaviours and create suitable management plans for our children, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

In 2021, I applied to join the Commissioning Team as Referral Coordinator, because it involves finding a nurturing place where young people can overcome their traumas and truly thrive. I will be forever grateful to my manager and the wider team for supporting me to take on this new challenge and grow within the Pebbles’ family.

Ian Boyd

Estates & Maintenance Manager

I have worked for Pebbles Care for over 20 years. I started my career as a residential child care worker, and within two years I progressed to home manager.

I managed several different homes in Cumbria and then settled at Tyne Close until 2020. I gained my NVQ Level 4 in Children and Young People and Level 4 in Leadership and Management with Pebbles. After becoming involved in the property maintenance of our homes in 2020, Pebbles supported me with the qualifications necessary to become the Estates & Maintenance Manager, and I am currently growing a fantastic team.

I have been at Pebbles for just over two years and absolutely love it. I started as a Residential Care Worker on a zero-hour contract, which quickly changed to a full-time contract. During this time, I was studying full-time at university for my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and the organisation provided me with the opportunity to do some work within the psychology department too.

No two days are the same at Pebbles, and it can be a fast-paced environment, which at times can be challenging. However, these challenges have helped me grow both as an individual and as a leader. My manager recognised my dedication to the young people, love for my job, and leadership skills. She encouraged me to apply for the role of Deputy Manager, and I have now been in the post for over a year, while working towards my SVQ-4 in Leadership and Management. At Pebbles, I feel valued and supported in all I do.

I started working for Pebbles as a team leader in September of 2019. My duties were to provide organisation and guidance to the staff team in delivering meaningful care and support to our young people. In February 2021, I started in my current role of Deputy Manager and have so enjoyed the challenges and rewarding experiences that have come with it. I have been able to develop professionally and learn new skills, but I also love supporting the team to develop as therapeutic parents. As a company, Pebbles provides many professional and educational opportunities for our people to become (almost) as amazing as our kids!

FAQ's

How long does the recruitment process take?

Depending on the role you have applied for, and your notice period, normally 4 to 6 weeks.

What happens in the interview?

Interviews will normally take between 45 and 60 minutes. We will arrange either an ‘in- person interview’ or ‘video interview’. We will introduce ourselves and ask you questions about your experience and career aspirations. Our priority is to get to know you and you learn about your key skills. We will ensure that you can ask questions about the role that you have applied for.

How long will I wait to hear from you?

We shortlist applications every day and so normally we will respond very quickly. If we receive a high volume of applications, we aim to get back to your application within ten working days. Interview outcomes and feedback can take up to one week. We will always keep you up to date and can be contacted every step of the way.

What is involved in your onboarding process?

Due to the nature of the children’s residential care sector, our recruitment checks are quite extensive. These checks are in place to ensure that we safeguard our children and young people. We will carry out a right to work check and you will be required to complete online forms so we can obtain an updated disclosure, detailed reference checks, and health questionnaire.

If I do not meet all the essential criteria, should I still apply?

We recommend that you should apply, even if you feel that there is something you still need to gain. Maybe we can advise you, or suggest another role that is suitable and with your permission we can save your details for future opportunities.
